(NewsUniverse) — For some Social Security recipients, May will be a bit more generous with a total of three checks from the Social Security Administration.
Those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits will get two payments this month, in addition to their regular Social Security payment.
As of March 2025, over 7.4 million people—including seniors, adults, and children—are receiving SSI benefits. Recently, some recipients reported receiving notices that they “weren’t receiving benefits,” but the Social Security Administration clarified that these notices were sent by mistake.
Bigger Checks for Some Recipients
Thanks to the Social Security Fairness Act, certain recipients are now seeing larger benefit checks. Specifically, those who had their benefits reduced due to the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) or the Government Pension Offset (GPO) should have received updated payments starting in April.
May Social Security Payment Schedule
If you’re expecting a payment in May, here’s what you need to know:
For Social Security retirement benefits, payments are staggered based on your birth date. Here’s the breakdown:
- Wednesday, May 14: Birth dates between the 1st and the 10th
- Wednesday, May 21: Birth dates between the 11th and 20th
- Wednesday, May 28: Birth dates between the 21st and 31st
For SSI recipients, there will be two payments this month. The first is on Thursday, May 1, and the second on Friday, May 30. The payment on May 30 is technically for June, which means there won’t be another SSI payment until July 1.
